Collaborators
Scanner aka Robin Rimbaud
Robin’s work traverses the experimental terrain between sound, space, image and form, creating absorbing, multi-layered sound pieces that twist technology in unconventional ways. He has won international admiration from amongst others, Bjork, Aphex Twin and Stockhausen and has been presented throughout the United States, South America, Asia, Australia and Europe.
Scanner has collaborated with artists across genres, including Bryan Ferry, Radiohead, The Royal Ballet, Merce Cunningham and Random Dance. Since 1991 he has been intensely active in sound art, producing concerts, compositions, installations and recordings and in 2004 his Sound Surface work with Stephen Vitiello was the first ever Tate Modern sound-art commission. He has performed and created works in many of the world's most prestigious spaces including SFMOMA USA, Hayward Gallery London, Pompidou Centre Paris, Kunsthalle Vienna, Bolshoi Theatre Moscow, Tate Modern London and The Royal Opera House London. In 2009 he released his new album, ‘Rockets, Unto the Edges of Edges,’ and presented new work at the Canary Islands Biennial. His avant pop band Githead continues to tour and record globally. He is currently Visiting Professor at University College Falmouth UK, and Visiting Professor at Le Fresnoy National Centre for Contemporary Arts in Tourcoing France.
Biography of Piece
4m2 is the first collaboration between choreographers/dancers Claire Cunningham and Jose Agudo, with composer Scanner. The performance was created as artists in residence at Déda, UK in summer 2008.
Claire and Jose have previously worked with a range of companies including Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, T.R.A.S.H, Theatre Rites, Shobana Jeyasingh Dance Company, Rui Horta, Ballet de Marseille, Random Dance and Charleroi/Danses.
Taking real stories of isolation as a starting point, 4m2 explores these memories as a way to find freedom and places of escape: the disparate tales of a Tibetan held in captivity, a Swedish actress whose stammer disappears when she performs, an Icelandic woman poised perilously atop the edge of a cliff, the freedom of being on an empty stage.
Visual artist Sian Stammers and an original score composed by Scanner sets 4m2 against a stunning backdrop.
4m2is for theatres and studio spaces. The performance displays themes of memory, recollection, isolation and freedom. Though technically sophisticated, the dance maintains the warmth and intimacy of personal experience. 4m2 has a distinctive stamp of intricacy and sincerity, playfulness and humour. This is interwoven with a stunning visual backdrop of film and images by Sian Stammers and original score by Scanner.
