The National Dance Network (NDN) and Dance 3

The National Dance Network (NDN) is a meeting point for organisations whose primary role is the development of dance in the context of presenting, programming and commissioning. NDN manages the Artistic direction and financial development of the annual BDE (British Dance Edition) probably the most important UK dance showcase.
NDN members aim towork together to achieve a thriving, risk taking and confident dance sector in Britain, where UK based choreographers have the opportunities to research, create and present world-class work that is promoted nationally and internationally. NDN will champion and challenge the creation and presentation of dance as a contemporary art form within a UK and international context.

In 2010 NDN delivers Dance 3, a tour that distributes high quality short dance works by choreographers that have achieved little or no national exposure (or exposure outside their region), encouraging a network of small scale venues/promoters.

This mission responds specifically to one of NDN’s original core aims ‘to champion and challenge the creation and presentation of dance in contemporary Britain.’

How were the artists chosen?

The aim is to distribute work by choreographers working at the small-scale, lacking the resources for permanent management, and needing further exposure to develop profile and identify partnerships to build their careers nationally. Dance 3’s curatorial policy responds directly to this aim and is based on the following criteria:-

Artistic

Three selection meetings took place to choose choreographers for Dance 3. This collegiate knowledge-sharing approach is supported by network members and promoters who value in-depth artistic discussion amongst peers.
